Harry Hays Lattimore

Harry Hays Lattimore passed away peacefully on August 17, 2012, surrounded by family following an extended illness. He was born March 18, 1924 and was a lifelong resident of Savannah and member of St. John's Episcopal Church. He was predeceased by his parents Dr. James Ralston Lattimore and Edna Eppes Lattimore and his sister Edna Lattimore Clancy of Macon, Georgia, and his brother William Lattimore of Savannah.
He was educated in the Savannah public schools and graduated from Riverside Military Academy, Gainesville, Georgia in 1942. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he attended the University of Georgia where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He received his MBA degree in Finance from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 1948.
He was associated for many years with the stock brokerage firm Varnedoe, Chisholm & Co. Upon early retirement he traveled extensively. He was a charter member of the Savannah Chapter of the Victorian Society in America where he served as treasurer until 2011. He was a member of the Society of Colonial Wars, the St. Andrews Society, and the English Speaking Union. Earlier in his life, he took an active role in the Port Society as a member of the Board of Managers who operates The Seamen's House. Also, for many years, he was a volunteer guide at the Green-Meldrim House. He was also a keen bridge player and grew exceptional African violets.
He is survived by five nieces and nephews including Anne Lattimore Janas of New York City, Elizabeth Lattimore Rousakis and William Lattimore, Jr. of Savannah, Carolyn Clancy Markert of Flowery Branch, Georgia and Jack Stacy Clancy, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida and many great and great-great nieces and nephews; and by his cousin Beth Lattimore Reiter and goddaughter Katherine Hays Reiter of Savannah.
The family is very grateful for the faithfulness and devotion of caregiver Patricia Gadson. She is an exceptional cook, and, in addition to her loving care in the final months, she prepared delicious meals over the years for the many luncheons that Harry Lattimore hosted in his home for family and friends.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the caring staff of Azalealand Nursing Home, Hospice Savannah and Buckingham South and to the wonderful sitters who cared for him.
The visitation will be Friday, August 24, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
A Private family graveside service will be held in Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's, 1 West Macon Street, Savannah, GA 31401 or Hospice Savannah, P. O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416-0190.
